Meath & Navan Councils
The concept of this scheme was to celebrate the riverside location of Navan. The masterplan proposed to extend the town centre northwards to meet the river and beyond to the new town park. The principal concept for the council office complex was the creation of a new gateway between the park, the river and the town, formed by the new office buildings and a civic plaza on the planned boulevard.
The council offices create an enclosing edge to the new boulevard and maintain a strong building line. The edge is formed by a curving glass atrium façade, behind which building blocks fan out like fingers towards the river, framing views of the riverside environment in the gaps between. This geometric array pattern is evocative of Stone Age carvings at nearby Knowth, in particular the ‘sundial’ on kerbstone 15. The masterplan shows an indicative building line continuing east along the boulevard to sustain the urban edge.
