No. 16 Henrietta Street
The concept for this open idea, in-fill site competition is for a new building integrated with No. 15 Henrietta Street providing a theatre and ancillary accommodation for the resident group of pipers. The form and mass of No. 16 respects the original typology of a Georgian townhouse, but the material and colours provide a sharp contrast to the severe form and solid materials of the existing street. The cladding is a composition of grooved acrylic glass panels which create different transmissions of light (clear, diffused, translucent) along the façade. In contrast, the glazing of the street level café along the lane is black, opaque and reflective.
