Robswalls
The main concept of this scheme on the north Dublin coastline is the formal east-west axis of public open space. Formal terraces of 3-storey houses in the maritime tradition are used to define it. The space is held by 2 crescents at either end and by 2 long terraces to the south. The park represents the principal identity of the scheme and acts as an orientation device by giving hierarchy to the road network. A secondary road system of mews housing is generated at the backs of the formal terraces in the tradition of Dublin’s Victorian residential suburbs. There is considerable interest in the mews lanes because of varying house types and the different levels generated by the steeply sloping site. The public realm has been finished to the highest standard and employs a rich selection of surface finishes, landscaping and considered location of windows and entrances.
