Bridge Street, Clongriffin
Block 16 is an integral edge of the principal square in the new town of Clongriffin and was designed to accommodate various changes in level associated with an overbridge railway station behind. It is a 6 storey building of apartments, duplexes and own-door townhouses over ground floor shops and a basement car park. The building is arranged around a central courtyard, to which all of the units have access. All of the apartments also have access at street level to give further animation. The southern part of the building interfaces with a stepped pedestrian street. Variation in the step arrangements allow a fast route, a meandering route, steps for sitting on and waiting, and widened ledges where café tables can spill out. The building is finished with a rich palette of smooth pale limestone, smooth green granite, grey hammered granite, coloured render, red cedar and glass balustrades.
