Ballyleague
The urban design strategy for the proposed development is to consolidate the existing village centre by infilling gaps with well designed street buildings, by creating street spaces with continuous building lines close to the back of the pavement and by opening up the backlands of main street properties to development by the creation of opportunities for new streets in the town fabric. The site has important frontages to the main street of Ballyleague and to the lakeside. It also has a strategic location at the gateway entry into the town from the west. On this western front it forms the entire side of a street leading down to the lakeside which is important as it is the only vehicular connection to the lake in the town. Essentially this proposal opens up the lake to the town by reinforcing this route as a street with a public character and by the location of a public house at the culmination of the street where it meets the lakeside. Dwelling types are simple, with a strong vernacular character.
